Only A Door

I went over to the house today to take a look at the progress but the only thing new that I could see was this door.

Just Drywall

I went to the job site today to find everyone already gone, and it looks like the only thing that got accomplished today was just a bit more drywall. At this pace, I'm starting to get a little worried. We need the contractors to get finished with their part of the project so we can get in and do everything that we can't do until they are done. Let's keep our fingers crossed that tomorrow will be a more productive day.

Plumbing Is Finished?

The report we got today is that the plumbing is finally finished. It looks like a bit more drywall went up today and and a bit more siding.

Another Full Day

My husband spent the entire day and evening at the house again today. I even went over today and spent about 5 hours getting my hands dirty. We continued work on the porch turned sunroom and the stairway.

We are using salvaged pieces of the original house to wrap the new sunroom.

The original staircase was enclosed. I decided to go ahead and put it back the way it was when the house was built. I think it will help the loft bedroom feel more private. We will be putting a rail on the bottom half of the stairs.

Husband Works Weekends

Randy worked on the future sunroom today. The old screened porch originally had 4 doorways. One to the office, one to the former kitchen, one to the dining area and one to the outside. We have enclosed all but the one that goes to the dining room. The new room will be insulated and will have a new wood floor. It will also be heated and air conditioned. This is going to be a really cute interior room.

Siding Problem Solved

We spoke to the contractors and they said it is possible for them to fix the issue I had with the siding being too wide. It looks like they simply needed to overlap it more.

My husband finished his second room and started on the porch. All rooms wrapped in wood will eventually be painted.

Drywall and plumbing continued also.

GREAT NEWS!!!!!

Today we got some VERY exciting news. This little house, hereafter known as "cobbler cottage", is going to be featured on the 36th annual Alton Historic House Tour.

As I've written in earlier posts, this house was built in 1850. It was originally a four room home.A room attached to the main living room was used as a cobbler shop.

I am in the process of gathering additional information to give the Alton Area Landmarks Association for the write up in the house tour brochure. I've already heard some interesting stories but I will share those as I verify their validity.

As for the progress today...WE HAVE ELECTRICITY!!!

Work continued on the drywall, and the new siding was started. I have to say I am disappointed in the look of it. I was told it would "very closely" match the existing wood siding and, as you can see, it doesn't closely match at all. It is much wider. I hope it looks alright when it is painted, but I admit I am a little worried. Now that I think about it, I didn't get to see the windows that were ordered either. I hope I'm not disappointed in them as well.

Now that the home is going to be on the house tour, the pressure is really on to get this project completed on time.

Work Continues Over The Weekend

Saturday work continued on the drywall and heating & cooling and my husband worked both Saturday and Sunday. He'll being going back to work today so he will only be able to work evenings and weekends now. Hopefully the power will be on today so he will have light to work by.

The master bedroom is the first room to have walls.

One of the rooms Randy has been working on.

We have a back door!!!!!! :)

Many activities were going on today. My husband continued wrapping the office with wood panels, the drywall was started, and the heating & cooling guys were on site beginning installation of the heater, hot water heater, and central air unit.

Here's Randy "working".

WIRED...still

Well the only report I have is that they are "finishing up the wiring" again today. We still don't have electricity but the projection is now tomorrow afternoon.

WIRED!

Wiring the new addition continued today and the house was wrapped in preparation for the new siding.

The drywall has been delivered.

A New Week

The weekend was filled with LOTS of shopping. We bought cabinets, vanities, sinks, faucets, a bathtub, and much more. Our garage looks like a warehouse!!! :)
We had a meeting with the contractors on Friday to decide where all of the lighting, electrical outlets and switches would go, and yesterday they started pulling all the wire. They also fired up the electricity to the main house to see if it was all working properly and IT WAS!!!
Maybe soon we'll have walls...

Beginning The New Sunroom

I've been told this former porch and office was built by a cobbler approximately 100 years ago.

Our plan is to turn this porch into a four season sunroom. My husband started it today.

I love the look of a sunroom. This will be another fun space to decorate.
